Marketplace Madness

Selling stuff on Facebook Marketplace can be a real pain. It sounds easy-peasy at first, but once you dive into it, you realize it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Is it convenient? Absolutely! But there are days it might be more trouble than it’s worth. Here’s why I absolutely loathe the whole ordeal:

Oh boy, where do I start? You put up a perfectly good item for sale, and suddenly, you’re bombarded with messages from interested buyers. “Is this still available?” Over and over again. But guess what? Half of them are just window shoppers. They inquire about the item, ask for more details, and then disappear into thin air. It’s like playing a never-ending game of tag with people who suddenly seem to no longer exist. And this is only the beginning.

You spend time and effort setting a fair price for your item, only to receive insulting lowball offers from potential buyers. And when you stand firm on a price, they suddenly seem insulted and take it as a personal slight. They act like they’re doing you a favour by taking it off your hands for next to nothing. It’s disrespectful and downright frustrating.

Even then, when you manage to find a serious buyer, the negotiation process can drag on forever. They haggle over every little detail, trying to squeeze out every last penny from you. It feels like you’re trapped in a never-ending loop of back-and-forth messages with no end in sight.

But you eventually manage to agree on a price and a meeting time…only for the potential buyer to ghost you at the last minute. You wait around like a fool, hoping they’ll show up, but they never do. It’s a colossal waste of time and energy.

Don’t want to go to them? No worries! Sell your item as a pickup at your address instead. But no matter how hard you spell it out for them, there are always those who insist you deliver the item to them. “And if you could take another $5 off, that would be great!” sigh

You finally managed to sell your item, but have you received any feedback or acknowledgment for your hard work? Nope, nada, zilch. It’s like your efforts go unnoticed, and you’re left feeling unappreciated.

Overall, selling stuff on Facebook Marketplace is a headache-inducing nightmare. From flakey buyers to endless negotiations, it’s enough to make you want to pull your hair out (if you had any left to begin with). So, unless you enjoy dealing with all the drama and stress, I suggest steering clear of this virtual flea market and exploring other avenues for selling your stuff. Trust me, your sanity will thank you.
