A Formal Complaint Against Mornings

To whom it may concern:

I would like to file a formal complaint against mornings.

Not early mornings. Not Monday mornings. I mean mornings in general. The whole concept. Frankly, the entire system needs to be reviewed.

For years now, I have tolerated mornings out of social obligation. Society says they are necessary. People say things like “that’s just how the day starts.” Nobody seems willing to question it. But the more I think about it, the more it feels like we’ve all just quietly agreed to something terrible.

First of all, mornings begin far too suddenly.

You’re asleep. Everything is quiet. Life is simple. Then an alarm goes off like a fire drill, and suddenly the day has started whether you’re ready or not.

There’s no gradual introduction. No gentle warm-up. Just noise and light and responsibilities immediately kicking the door open.

Second, the human brain is clearly not ready for conversation during this time.

Some people claim to be “morning people.” I do not trust these people. They wake up cheerful. They stretch. They say things like “beautiful day.” Meanwhile, the rest of us are trying to remember how doors work.

Coffee helps, but only slightly. Coffee is less a solution and more a life raft.

You drink one cup and think, okay, maybe I can survive this. Then, fifteen minutes later, you’re staring at the wall, wondering why you walked into the kitchen in the first place.

And let’s talk about responsibilities.

The day doesn’t ease into existence. It begins with demands. Immediately, there are things that must happen. Clothes must be worn. Food must be made. Small people appear with requests that cannot be ignored.

No warm-up period. No gentle introduction. Just straight into the chaos.

Which leads me to my final point.

If mornings are going to continue existing—and it seems like they will, despite my objections—they should at least come with a grace period. A quiet buffer. Maybe an hour where nobody expects anything and the sun agrees to calm down a little.

Just a soft start to the day.

Until then, I maintain that mornings are poorly designed and frankly a little rude.

This concludes my complaint.

I assume it will be ignored like all the others.

Sincerely,

A concerned (and disgruntled) citizen
